Each and every Tuesday I share a few tips that have less to do about weight loss and more to do about travel. Today is all about apps and how they can save you precious time on those hectic travel days.
Ever since Apple launched their app store, you constantly hear the cliche “There’s an app for that” and when it comes to travel there are quite a few! It is amazing to me how many people that travel don’t download the tools to make their life much easier. Below you will find a few of my favorites and if I missed any I would love to hear from you!
In this article, I break up the different types of apps into 4 different areas. General, Hotel, Airline, and Car Rental to make it easy for you to go directly to the area that you are looking for and download the app.
Kayak– Kayak is a tool that is always running in the background and keeps track of all of my travels. Once you setup Kayak, it will monitor your inbox and put all of your reservations into a file that you can easily access anywhere, even offline. Kayak also does a great job of monitoring changes to your itinerary and notifies you of those last minute gate changes. If you don’t download any other apps, at least download this one so you have all of your travel information in one area.
Lounge Buddy– Lounge buddy was recently purchased by American express so there may be changes to the app in the future. For now, I use lounge buddy to see what lounges are in the airports I am traveling to. This app is the difference between a stress-free layover and one in which you want to play frogger on the runway.
Priority Pass – I have talked about the priority pass several times in the past and if you fly more then 3 times a year you should be looking into the program. Priority pass is a yearly membership that gets you access to free food and free drinks in airports worldwide. I use this pass every time I leave Cleveland to get a free breakfast before I take off for the day. It is also worth noting that Priority Pass is included with several travel credit cards. All of the major hotel chains offer free apps that allow you to manage your reservations, check your reward points and in some cases even unlock your hotel room door! Below is a list of the major hotel chains and a link to their mobile apps.
Much like the hotel chains, the airlines also all offer a mobile app that houses your seating assignments, your boarding pass, and also allows for push notifications when they change your gate last minute.
Rental Car Apps
Skip the long lines at the rental counter by downloading the rental car company’s mobile app. These apps will tell you exactly where your rental is located so you can hit the ground running when you land at your destination.
Hopefully you will download a few of these apps before your next trip so you can spend more time relaxing and less time stressing. Did I miss any of your favorites? If so, let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you!
